Padding -- Why is it so Important?

The single most important decision you will make when buying carpet is selecting the type and quality of padding. The life of any carpet is partially determined by the quality of cushion underneath it. The carpet and cushion work in tandem to insulate, improve comfort, minimize abrasion and wear, resist crushing and matting, and provide added shock and sound absorption.

The Carpet and Rug Institute and Carpet Manufacturers recommend a pile height for padding of 1/4 inch to no more than 7/16 inch and a minimum density/weight of 6 pounds per cubic foot.

At Dalton Carpet we exceed all recommended specifications by ONLY using padding that is 8 pounds per cubic foot. The pile height is normally 7/16 inch but for special applications 1/4 inch or 3/8 inch is available.
